Beavers reduce flood risk

Beavers are our friends!

According to a recent study carried out in England (Devon), beavers dams help to reduce the risk of flooding for neighbouring cities and villages that could be at risk.

Also, the study showed that beavers have a great impact of wildlife. They contribute to boosting wetland, water channels and grassland, helping local wildlife prosper, including fish, amphibians and birds.

Beavers dams also help filtering soil, manure, slurry and fertilisers that could come from farmland, which allows the water to be cleaner.

In 2019, Scotland declared beavers a protected species which means it is now illegal to trap or kill them.
