China to ban plastic bags

China will ban non-degradable plastic bags from the end of 2020.

This is a great news, as China is the biggest plastic waste producer in the world (followed by the US).

China has 1.4 billion citizens and waste management has become a major concern in the country.

The ban will be implemented in major cities from end of 2020, and everywhere else from 2022. Only markets selling fresh produce will have until 2025 to adapt.

On top of it, China will also ban the production and sale of plastic bags that are less than 0.25mm thick, and hotels will not be allowed to offer single-use plastic items by 2025.
