Learn how to regrow your lettuce scraps
YES, you can regrow indefinitely the same lettuce over and over again! Eat organic without overspending, and reduce food waste! No need for soil or any green thumb 👍
Instructions
Just cut the bottom of the lettuce and place it in a small recipient with water. You don’t need a lot of water – just enough to cover the roots, otherwise it will get slimy. Change the water every 2-3 days to make sure it’s always clean and fresh, and place by a window. After a couple of days, you will see growth starting in the centre. After a few weeks, you lettuce will be ready for lunch!
It works with different types of lettuce, like Romaine, green leaf and red leaf. Try it at home and let us know what you think 😉
Why is it important to reduce food waste?
Food waste DOES NOT biodegrade in landfill (read our article about this). Waste is compacted and stored without air and without oxygen (anaerobic environment). When organic materials break down in anaerobic environments, methane gas is produced. Methane contributes heavily to climate change, more than CO2!
That’s why it is important to compost your organic waste (read our article about composting). So if you don’t compost your food scraps, this could be a great solution to save money, waste and reduce your emissions.
