New York state to ban single-use plastic bags

Did you know?

New York State voted to impose a statewide ban on most types of single-use plastic bags in retail sales from March 2020.

This is the second state in the U.S. to adopt a statewide ban, after California, which banned bags in 2016. Hawaii also effectively has a ban in place.

New York’s ban will forbid stores to provide customers with single-use plastic bags.

However there will be exceptions, including food takeout bags used by restaurants, bags used to wrap deli or meat counter products and bags for bulk items. Newspaper bags would also be exempted, as would garment bags and bags sold in bulk, such as trash or recycling bags.

This is a good news, but why wait until March 2020 to stop using single-use plastic bags? Start your own plastic bag ban and switch to reusable bags 😉 Easy!
