Did you know?
The UK has reduced greenhouse gases emissions. In 2017 they were 2.7% lower than in 2016 – and 42.1%lower than in 1990.
One of the main reasons for this is the mass closure of coal-fired power stations. Coal use for electricity fell 27% to a record low.
However, global emissions are in the rise and the UK is still far from achieving its target of cutting CO2 emissions 80% by 2050.
Although coal fired power plants are in decline, there are still big challenges in regards with other sectors like transport, farming, agriculture and housing.
