Tokyo 2020 Olympic medals will be made from recycled electronics

Did you know?

All the medals at the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo will be made from recycled electronic waste.

The recycled waste will come from old smartphones and laptops. The aim is to collect 30kg of gold, 4100kg of silver and 2700kg of bronze to create the medals.

You too can recycle your old electronics, like your smartphones. You could sell it or donate it, but if it is too old or broken, recycle it!

There are specialized recycling facilities for electronic devices and many mobile phone shops will recycle it for you. You would be surprised to see how many parts of a phone can be recovered and reused 😉 Easy!
